Evan and I have done a lot of babysitting. Evan had experience with his younger cousins. I took care of kids during children’s church and had babysitting gigs in high school. It’s always fun to spend a few hours doing all the fun kid things. Take them to movies, play games, and go to amusement parks. But once the kids are back home with their parents, we enjoy our quiet time at home.
There was a time when a friend had a date and needed to drop her four kids off earlier than expected. I had picked up an extra shift at work so Evan was taking care of them solo. Thankfully, it was a nice day and they all were able to hang out at the pool for a few hours. Evan had the kids help him make this pizza, eat well, and then they fell asleep until their mom picked them up.
- 1 French Bread Roll
- 1 (15 oz. can) Tomato sauce
- ½ Tbs. sugar
- 1 Tbs. Oregano
- Salt and Pepper to Taste
- Shredded Cheese
- Pre-heat oven to 400*F.
- Mix tomato sauce with sugar, oregano and salt and pepper. (You don’t have to use sugar depending on the brand of tomato sauce you use. Some brands can be really acidic so the sugar helps keep the sauce balanced.)
- Cut the French bread in half and spread tomato sauce on top. Then, add pepperoni and cheese.
- Bake for 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.
You don’t have to use French bread. Sometimes, I’ll make my own crust or even use tortillas. You can even have a bunch of toppings the kids can choose from; trying to include new vegetables for them to eat. I think it’s good to keep kids involved in the kitchen. It teaches them responsibility, to have creativity, and gives them confidence. My friend had texted me that her kids now wanted to have pizza nights because of this recipe. She was also thankful that they could help with a meal.
