Staying Hydrated – Flavoring Your Water

Drink more water! I can’t even count how many times I’ve been told this in the past!  I heard it at the doctor’s office, acupuncturist, dermatologist, gyms, etc. I hated drinking water. I had to set alarms on my phone to remind myself to drink water just like one would with taking medication. It wasn’t until I worked at a spa and found out about flavoring water that it became easier to drink.

Working at the spa was one of the many jobs I had while Evan went to college. This spa was considered “high-class” because they had their own line of skin care products, an imported fashion clothing line, hand towels, and even offered a massage while you got your hair done. Super fancy!  During my first week working, I was asked to go to the store to get some fruit, cucumbers, and mint. We cut up the fruit and cucumbers and put them in the pitcher of water early in the morning. By the time we opened, we had beautiful flavored water for the guests to drink. I thought to myself why didn’t I think to do that?!

In the past, I used a lot of water mixes that had too much sugar. If you are watching your calories, like I am, try adding fruits, veggies, and herbs to your water for flavor.

Here is one of my favorite combinations.

Ingredients:

  • 10 mint leaves
  • ½ cucumber, sliced
  • 1 gallon water

Procedure:

  1. In your pitcher of water, add mint and cucumbers. Allow to sit for a few minutes for flavor to settle into the water.
  2. Enjoy!

My conclusion:

I love to serve this on hot day or at brunch (post coming soon). It’s easy, simple, and something different than just plain water.
